Carving asphalt

I read about a hidden gem near home and decided to carve some asphalt early this morning.

Rt 715 is five miles east of Mt. Vernon, Ohio off St. Rt. 36. I however decided to take a quicker route to catch 715 at the beginning. I took Rt 13 north out of Newark to Utica where I jumped onto Rt. 62 thru Martinsburg to Rt. 36 in Millwood. From there it was about 1 mile east and intersect with 715. Rt 62 is a nice stretch of road which winds thru lots of farming communities. On at least 4 occasions this morning, I had to slow down and pass left of center around Amish folks riding their buggies or pulling wagons.

Rt 715 is a very fun road with something for everyone. It has lots of twisties, straight-aways, and lots of enjoyable views. At times it runs parallel to the Kokosing River, winds thru several twisties, opens to several straight-aways where you can really open it up, and then traverses thru several valleys with lots of hills surrounding the view. I enjoyed the ride so much I forgot to stop and take pictures. Figure to ride it again in October when the leaves change. After crossing Mohawk dam, I pulled off 715 and took Rt. 79 back, which is about a 30 mile jaunt back to Newark, which is another road I've taken on several occasions.

Between Rt. 62, 715, and 79, it was a nice 2 hour morning stroll. Click on this link to see this entire travel route.

Next destination, the Highway to Hell (Rt. 666)!
