This past weekend Indian Summer arrived, albeit rather late in the year, which is extremely unusual in November. The weather was sunny, clear, and in the mid 60's to 70 degrees. Absolutely gorgeous weather which was perfect for taking to the road on the iron horse.
Sunday morning came and after receiving several text messages inquiring if I wanted to ride, was then preceded by my friend George stopping by and we went to hookup with our mutual friend Tim. The three of us then proceeded to cruise to the Iron Pony in Westerville, Ohio. The Iron Pony is my all-time favorite go-to store. I could easily blow a paycheck or two buying the latest farkles for my Vulcan, buying another jacket or gloves, or any other number of biking accessories. I'm like a kid in a toy store and could spend hours trying on different bike jackets or jumping onto newestYamaha cycles that are on the premises. I especially had my liked the a Yamaha 2010 Royal Star Venture S, which would be a great fit for my wife and I to enjoy on long summer weekends.
After checking out all the bikes parked in front of the store, we took off and went north on SR 3 to Sunbury where we then turned east onto SR 37. Once on 37 we passed thru Johnstown, Alexandria, and into Granville, Ohio where we ended up north of Granville on Rt 661. At times during the ride we hit speeds upwards of 80mph. The adrenaline rush of the wind rushing over me, the warmth of the afternoon sun beating on my back, and the rumble of my iron steed below my feet made me long to push the bike further and faster. We stopped in Granville at the Denison University Biological Reserve so George could meet up with his wife & daughter so they could spend time hiking together. Upon arriving at the reserve, we all parted company and went our separate ways.
Upon arriving at home I was treated to an awesome dinner of sauteed chicken breast & season potatoes, which was finished off with steaming hot cup of coffee sitting on the back deck watching the sunset and ending the day. All in all, a very fine day spent in the company of good friends doing what I enjoy most. Riding!
