230lbs - Sumo man enters the ring

Dang! It happened! I've turned into a 40 something guy with a big spare tire midsection. Matter of fact, according to BMI (body mass index), being a 5 ft 9 in male individual, I am obese. I should weigh around 150-170lbs.

Hard to believe a mere 4 yrs ago I was down to 189 lbs and since have ballooned to my present weight.

To begin, let me make this statement...I love to eat! I am always tempted to snack and overeat. I am to blame for my weight gain. No major life events caused me to blow up like a blimp. Plain and simple, I've gotten lazy both in mind and body. I've not disciplined myself to control what I eat, how much I eat, and not exercising. I have no one to blame but myself and recognize the need to take control of my life and take care of my body. If I don't, my blood pressure will kill me or I'll have a heart attack (both sides of my family have heart disease).
What sucks too is my clothes are too small and too tight. I'm almost into a 2XL shirt. I wear 36 x30 jeans (I used to wear 33x30 jeans forever), and I wear a Large in adult mens briefs/boxers now. Yech!!!

I'm writing this blog to begin a journey. It will include my thoughts for the day and include my daily progress trying to lose weight, slim down, and gain back muscle tone. My goal for the next 120 days is to reduce my weight to 185 lbs. Therefore I should realistically be able to lose 11.25lbs each month (or 2.75 lbs per week). I will borrow techniques from P90X, Men'sHealth Belly Off, and other exercise programs, including the martial arts, weight lifting, walking, and playing basketball.

This blog will track that progress.

Day 1 starting weight: 230 lbs.

Starting exercises:
Warm up stretching, diagonal curl-up, bridging, side planks, oblique crunch, and 1 mile walk. I will also be teaching/training in the Martial Arts later today.
