Forget the toys, talk with me.

Spent the day with my son going to the Easy Rider show at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. Was my first motorcycle based show other than poker runs  and cruise-ins. Although there was lot's of hardware to salivate over and some female beauties too, the best part of the event was enjoying the time spent with my son. Between sharing common bonds in likes in bikes (street bobbers), it was a great time to get away from the daily goings at home. It was a time to slow down and admire the custom machines, the radical paint schemes, and the raw horsepower.

The second best part of the whole show experience was meeting folks at the show and talking shop. I spoke with friends and acquaintances from the CMA (Christian Motorcyclists Association), an airbrush artist ("Fat Daddy" Tadpole) who specializes in custom designed airbrush paint jobs on bikes, to the coat & hat check folks, to the Convention center information kiosk guy who was a wealth of information about the city of Columbus, Ohio. Everyone was laid back and truly enjoyable to talk to.

My son, continually asked me afterwards if I knew some of these folks, to which I told him no, until now. Finding that common bond in bikes is the catalyst for lot's of good conversation and new friendships. I remember a time when I was somewhat withdrawn from social circles, but now find myself enjoying talking with complete strangers and sharing on a level few understand outside the biking community.

In reflection, today was a good day. Taking time to spend with my son away from the daily grind is satisfaction enough. Finding time talking bikes with my son.....priceless.
