TKD Warrior

Had Tae Kwon Do class tonight. I'm a 2nd Dan Black Belt Soke Dai who's anxious to know much about all the different styles & disciplines of the Martial Arts. I trained with a 4th Degree Black Belt tonight with a very diverse history, background, and training in multiple disciplines. This guy has lots of experience, which is what I'm tapping into to as long as he hangs around. The more time I spend with him and my Tae Kwon Do instructor(whom also is a 10th Dan Black Belt and Founder of his own system), the more I realize this is not something one learns overnight, but over a lifetime.

Funny thing is, with my experience being a Systems Administrator and IT nut, I work with and train people on how to use multiple different productivity applications. In my diverse training and experience using lots of different applications, I can now see lots of similarities between how applications work and how they're similar in a lot of different respects, including functionality compared to the kata. For example, once one learns a single application and all it's basic functions, one then will find that most other similar applications have the same exact functions and similarities, but for different purposes. Also the more complex an application becomes, the more similarities one finds and compiles to compile & extract very specific end results.

Tonight I learned one needs to slow down and dig into the details, their application and fuctionality in the kata . The one key I'm beginning to learn is it's not enough to just learn the movements and complete the form, but to dissect it, understand it, and breath life into it to the point the kata begins to live and flow fluidly.

I could spend hours just figuring out each of the different forms I've learned and all the different movements and how they flow together for exacting purposes, and you know, that's okay, I'm not in a hurry. I'm hungry and have lot's of time on my hands.
