Blizzard of '08, Ain't it Great!

Just as the weather forecasters predicted, a snowstorm barreled thru the Ohio valley and has encased us in over a foot of snow. During the night, my wife and I were woken up by Blackie (our Border Collie dog that stays outside) barking pretty crazily. I yelled at him to be quiet and returned to bed, only to be awoken by bright lightning soon followed by thunder, which explained why Blackie was carrying on in the middle of the night (4:45AM).

When I awoke at 9am, snow was coming down heavy and was at least 10" deep. Soon enough, Jericho and I cleared a snow path to the dog pen, cleaned off the back steps and took a walk to the sled hill behind the county Health building on King road.

Neither Derby, King, Essex or Price roads had been plowed by the county yet. We took a long walk near the county Health building which actually is a cool looking place in the fall & winter.


It was quiet, snow was falling steadily, and no traffic was present. A perfect Saturday morning enjoying the winter with my family.







While walking around, we saw at least two vehicles off the road. There were a couple of people out enjoying the snow on quad runners.



After we got back to the house, we let the dogs out of the pen. They love the snow almost as much as the kids.

Shortly after clearing the back deck of all the snow, we shoveled our driveway, our neighbors driveway, and my daughters went and shoveled two other neighbors driveways and made a few bucks for their trouble. Now it's around 6pm, snow is still falling, but we're no longer under a blizzard warning. Watching the news, Newark now has 16" of the white stuff and it's still snowing, but soon to taper off altogether. Hard to believe just a week ago it was around 60 degrees, and here a week later, we have all this snow and it's around 21 degrees out. Another typical day of Ohio weather.
