Memorial Day weekend

Like most Americans, I too am celebrating this weekend with my family. So far this weekend we've been to three of my son's baseball games and did some work in the water gardens, in addition to hanging up our patriotic banners around the front of our home. We are truly grateful to remember our troops and we express our sincere appreciation for their sacrifices serving in prior wars, and for those whom are serving overseas protecting our right to freedom and preserving our interests abroad.

My nephew Tommy Brown was here in the United States on furlough last week from the U.S. Army and was in town last weekend. He looked good and was relishing every free moment until he has to return to his military unit in Iraq. He's grown into quite a mature man whom has grown much since serving in Iraq.

While Tommy was here, he bought a new 2008 Honda CB600RR motorcycle and spent some time buying additional cycle related items at the Iron Pony in Columbus and the local Honda dealership in Heath. From what I've read of the reviews, the CB600RR rates really well for a crotch rocket. Hoping to hook up with him when he returns from overseas and ride.

Have to admit it's been a welcome change to ride back and forth to work on my Kawasaki. It helps the days cares to melt away after the end of the work day. I look forward to the weekends to ride whenever possible. Tonight I took a short ride around town on the Kawasaki. The weather was absolutely awesome, sunny and 72 degrees. No jacket required because it was so nice.

Just a couple of weekends ago I took Paige with me and we took an evening ride and traveled north thru Vanatta to St. Louisville, and then north to Utica. Once we got to Utica we turned west on 62 and rode till we got to Johnstown. There we turned south onto 37 and rode to Alexandria. From there we traveled east on old Newark-Granville Road until we hit Granville and then east back into Newark. Gorgeous weather, a few bugs, and open road.

Wasn't too long after that I took a ride with my two friends George & Tim on a Monday morning that was bright and warm. We traveled south out of Newark onto St. Rt. 13 until we hit 256 and then traveled west to 664. We then took 664 south thru Rushville and Bremen until we hit Logan. There we had lunch at Bob Evans and then took 33 north to Lancaster and traveled north back to Buckeye Lake where the three of us split in different directions.

Don't get much better than that ;)
Cycle shots and travel pics coming soon - JF
